Kennecott Copper Mine Standing at the overlook within the Bingham Canyon Mine, you can see, hear, and feel the breathtaking and awesome magnitude of the largest man-made excavation on earth. From the overlook, you can watch 240 and 320 ton capacity haulage trucks deliver copper ore to the in-pit crusher, where the material is reduced to the size of soccer balls before being loaded onto a five-mile conveyor that carries the ore to the Copperton Concentrator. Located in south-west Salt Lake County.

herber railroadHeber Valley Historic Railroad The Heber Valley Railroad’s History began in 1899 when trains served the pioneers in the valley. In the 1970s, the Railroad became the “Heber Creeper,” a tourist passenger train operating on a seasonal basis. They now operate as a year-round, non-profit organization focused on tourism, education and the restoration of historical railroad equipment.

Education has always been a priority in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1847 pioneer Jane Dillworth held the first classes in her tent for the children of the first Mormon families. By 1850 many schools had already sprung up around the valley, and there were plans for a school attached to every wardhouse. Education is still a big priority in Salt Lake City, with many private and public schools available. In recent years, charter schools have grown in popularity and offer specialized education without the expense of a private school. Salt Lake County includes five separate public school districts. Salt Lake City and Murray operate their own school districts. The Granite School District, the largest in the state, is a broad district that covers a swath from Kearns and Taylorsville through West Valley City, Utah and eastward to South Salt Lake and Millcreek Township, among others. The Jordan School District, with approximately 48,000 students, covers the southwest part of the county, including West Jordan; the new Canyons School District includes Sandy, and Draper.
